Gold Striker

I have seen a lot of wooden coasters, but this one has a very unusual construction technique.  Each of the thousands of wooden supports starts nearly a foot above the concrete footers.  The large metal brackets hold the supports way above ground level.  This may have been done for earthquake protection and local construction codes.
