Kanonen is built on a huge 50 by 25 metre elevated concrete slab. This was done for a couple of reasons. First, ground near the river is soft, so nearly 200 piles were driven up to 25 metres down into the ground. Second, the area below the slab is used to house the launching equipment, maintenance workshops, and storage space.
This waiting queue is essentially one story above ground level.
