Rutschebanen

LaMarcus Adna Thompson (March 8, 1848 - May 8, 1919) was instrumental in the development of roller coasters in the late 19th and early 20th century.  He was responsible for nearly thirty patents relating to gravity rides.  He founded the L. A. Thompson Scenic Railway and was famous for building notable rides such as the Coney Island Gravity Pleasure Switchback Railway and the Atlantic City Scenic Railway.  Rutschebanen is the last surviving example of a LaMarcus Thompson roller coaster.
