Valravn

From 1968 to 1985, the Frontier Lift sky ride operated on the west side of the peninsula.  Evidence of the ride is still around the park if you know where to look for it.  One of its loading stations remains outside of the exit from the Cedar Creek Mine Ride and still houses a large set of restrooms.  The other station was converted into Iron Dragon's station.  The ride shown here, which, like the Frontier Lift, was built by the Von Roll company based in Switzerland, is the Sky Ride.  Built in 1962, the ride carries riders above Cedar Point's main midway and the famous floral displays.  When I took this picture, it was early in the season, and the individual flowers hadn't completely grown in, but you can still clearly see the Valravn logo and an American flag below the Sky Ride.

Cedar Point is a great mix of new rides, old rides, and historic locations.  The Cedar Downs Racing Derby carousel is housed under the circular roof visible to the left of the floral American flag.  Across the midway from there sits the Coliseum.  It was built in 1906 and has a large ballroom that was the home of numerous dances in the first half of the 1900s.  The ballroom is occasionally used for meetings and events these days, and the ground floor is currently home to a huge collection of new and classic arcade games.   Three of the Coliseum's 14 pointed columns are visible in this picture.  The Pagoda Gift Shop sits just beyond the Coliseum and was also built over 100 years ago.
