Apocalypse

From 1997 until 2011, this location in Six Flags America was home to the Skull Mountain boat ride.  The ride, which was built by Intamin AG, was called the Typhoon Sea Coaster for its first decade of operation.  It initially utilized turntables to rotate the boats and had the capability to let boats travel backward through a portion of the ride, but this feature was removed after a few years, so boats simply moved forward throughout the entire run.  In a flagrant copyright violation, the music from Disney's Pirates of the Caribbean ride was piped into the enclosed part of the ride.  "Yo Ho! A Pirate's Life for Me" was a little out of place in Maryland.

The rock-work behind the lift hill is a leftover from Skull Mountain.  Fake rock now covers the giant skull that boats used to drop through, but the outlines of the old skull are slightly visible in the new rocks.
