In my opinion, Walter  Bolliger and Claude Mabillard are geniuses.  Check out this mechanism!  It uses pneumatic pistons to raise and lower the floor when the train is in the station.  In order for it to operate, the train has to stop less than one half of an inch from the normal parking position.
