Wonder Wheel
The amazing Wonder Wheel was built in 1920 by the Eccentric Ferris Wheel Company.  The wheel stands 150 feet high and holds 144 people at once.  From the top of the wheel, you can get a great view of the famous beach here on the southern shore of the island.

On the upper right of this photograph is the 262-foot tall Steeplechase Parachute Jump tower.  It was moved here in 1941 after originally operating at the 1939-1940 World's Fair.  New York City tried to sell the ride in the 1970s, but no one purchased it.  It has been sitting dormant now for decades, but it still might be refurbished.
