The track at the top of this picture is the end of the ride. The metal plates mounted to the top of the track interact with magnets on the train to dramatically slow the vehicle's speed. Magnetic brake systems provide a tremendous amount of drag if the trains are moving quickly, but their slowing forces diminish greatly as the train slows down. At a very slow speed, the magnets hardly create any slowing force, so magnetic brakes are not used to bring trains to a complete stop.
