The inspection sticker on the bottom brings up an interesting point.  Roller coaster inspection and safety regulation has been left up to the states as there is no current federal oversight of amusement parks.  Some states, such as Texas, have pretty detailed, recurring inspection requirements whereas other states have no regulations at all that cover roller coasters.  Don't let this lack of regulation worry you too much.  Amusement park operators have strong incentives to ensure that their rides are safe.  The damage an accident would do to a park's reputation and the massive legal liabilities in the aftermath of an injury or death are incentive for any reputable ride owner to be highly concerned about safety.  In addition, insurance companies often impose more stringent requirements than the states.
