Newer Intamin Drop Towers are completely vertical, but this older Free Fall model has a 90° angle in the track.  Riders end up lying on their backs as they come to a stop.  Newer towers use simple magnetic brakes that don't require any power or control system, but this old ride uses a complex arrangement of position sensors, computers, and pneumatically-operated pinch brakes to control the car's deceleration along the horizontal track.
