Rolling Thunder

I have no idea why this part of Rolling Thunder was saved.  Was it nostalgia?   I doubt it because there is no sign or note explaining what this ride was.  Was it because it passed so closely to El Toro?   I don't think so because the steel structure of the mostly wood coaster above here is specifically designed and built to travel over the old coaster without touching its old structure.
