Flight of the Hippogriff

There are nine cars in each train, but only eight of them have seats.  As you can see, the back car is empty.

I often wondered why there wasn't a row of seats in the last car.  Was it because the train was too heavy for 18 riders?  Was there a way to strap a wheelchair on this platform?  The actual reason for this empty car is simple.  It allows a path for ride operators to cross over the track when the train is in the station.  Since crossing the track is difficult, this empty car provides an easy pathway for employees to get from one side of the station to the other!
