Vekoma started way back in 1926. Based in The Netherlands, its name is an abbreviation of Veld Koning Machinefabriek, or Veld Koning Machine Factory in English. The company began making amusement park rides in the 1970s. In 2018, it was purchased by Sansei Technologies, Inc., a company based in Osaka, Japan. Sansei has built a limited number of small roller coasters in Japan as well as people-movers for Buzz Lightyear and Little Mermaid rides at several Disney parks.
In 2012, Sansei purchased a 77% stake in S&S Worldwide, the Utah company formerly known as S&S Power and S&S Sports. That division is currently called S&S Sansei Technologies.
