Alpengeist

I could hold one of the small wheels with one hand while I photographed it with the other hand, but the large wheels were much heavier.  It took two hands to lift one up!

The large wheels, often called Drive Wheels, sit above the track and bear the weight of the train.  The smaller wheels sit below and beside the track and help guide the train as well as lock it safely to the tubular rails.

Polyurethane wheels used on the Alpengeist inverted coaster. Pictures taken on a behind-the-scenes tour of Busch Gardens.
