At the end of the 1999 season, this prime piece of lakeside real estate was slated to be the home of 500 condominiums. The park was going to be demolished to make way for this new housing development. Fortunately, the park was saved. Thanks to the neighboring Iowa Great Lakes Maritime Museum, the Okoboji Spirit Center, and thousands of volunteers, a "Save the Park" campaign managed to raise more than $7,600,000 in a little over 30 days. Because of their amazing fundraising efforts, Arnolds Park will thrill guests for many more years.
