Wild One

In the early 1930s, the Giant Coaster was partially destroyed in a fire.  Herbert Schmeck (1890-1956), who worked for the Philadelphia Toboggan Company from 1923 to 1955, was called in to redesign and rebuild the coaster.  As part of his work, the ride switched from side-friction to the more modern construction technique where trains are literally locked onto the tracks.
