Disneyland

Anaheim, California

In the early 1950s, Walt Disney visited an amusement park with his daughters. He observed that park was filthy and noticed that parents didn't have anything to do while their children went on rides. He then set out to develop his ideal amusement park. In 1953, Disney purchased 160 acres of orange groves in Anaheim. After a year of construction and an expenditure of $18 million, the Magic Kingdom was ready to open in 1955. The park consisted of several themed areas: Main Street USA, Adventure Land, Frontier Land, Fantasyland, and Tomorrowland. During its long history, Disneyland has continued to change, evolve, and expand. In 2001, Disney's California Adventure opened up next to Disneyland.
